3.1 The Power of Action

Many people want to have a better marriage, but fail to work to make it happen. It is easy to think of love as something that happens to us or something that we stumble upon or fall into. We think this because often the first spark of love involves a serendipitous meeting or an unplanned romantic moment. But real love happens when we made a decision, formulate a plan, and take action. Real love is proactive, not just reactive.

According to the book of Genesis, on the third day God formed the dry land and created grass, plants and trees bearing fruit. The fruit is a symbol of the action we take and the good things we do for the people we love. Jesus spoke of that fruit when He said,

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.... By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples. (John 15:5,8)

Paul says,

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22-25)

The key to the third day is to continue to bear this kind of fruit.
