Caring for Marriage

The birds are a picture of the mind being lifted to a still higher level. When we trust the Lord, the truth He gives raises us up far above the earth. “Those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles” (Isaiah 40:31). Moses describes the Lord bringing the people of Israel out of Egypt this way:

As an eagle stirs up its nest, Hovers over its young, Spreading out its wings, taking them up, Carrying them on its wings, So the LORD alone led him. (Deut 32:11-12)

You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bore you on eagles’ wings and brought you to Myself.(Exodus 19:4).

Bearing someone on eagles’ wings means being raised on high, even to heavenly light.... By the visible heaven or sky the ancients understood the angelic heaven. The simple also believed that angels had their home up there, and in addition that since places on high were nearer the sun and stars, heavenly light itself shone there. So it is that ‘being borne on eagles’ wings’ means being taken on high into that light. (Secrets of Heaven 8764)

The wings are for our comfort and protection, too. When King David was facing civil war with his own son, he wrote, “Oh, that I had wings like a dove! I would fly away and be at rest” (Psalm 55:6). Again, the Lord’s people are pictured as a woman clothed with the sun and attacked by a great, red dragon. She was given two wings as of a great eagle so she could fly to safety (Revelation 12:14).

Thinking about money, possessions, pleasure and other worldly things actually drags our minds downwards like weights (Secrets of Heaven 6210), where we become mired in selfish and materialistic thoughts from spirits who care only about those things. “In order to be lifted up from those spirits we must think about eternal life” (Secrets of Heaven 6201).

Raising our thoughts to heaven also involves mercy and forgiveness. “As the heavens are high above the earth, so great is His mercy towards those who fear him” (Psalm 103:11). “Your mercy, O LORD, is in the heavens; Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds” (Psalm 36:5).
